Tanzania and Algeria Agree to Expand Cooperation on ICT, Postal Services and Digital Transformation
Geneva, Switzerland — July 2026
The United Republic of Tanzania and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in information and communication technologies (ICT), telecommunications, postal services and digital transformation. The pledge followed high-level talks held on the sidelines of the AI for Good Summit and the WSIS High-Level Event in Geneva.
The meeting brought together Tanzania's Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Honorable Angellah Jasmine Mbelwa Kairuki, and Algeria's Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Honorable Sid Ali Zerrouki. The two explored new opportunities to advance digital development, innovation, and connectivity for the mutual benefit of their countries and the wider African continent.
Honorable Minister Angellah Kairuki highlighted Tanzania's progress in expanding digital infrastructure and improving access to communication services. She proposed closer collaboration across cybersecurity, e-government, broadband infrastructure, innovation ecosystems, data protection, e-commerce, postal services and ICT skills development. She also called for the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for joint initiatives, and directed technical teams from both countries to begin detailed engagement.
Honorable Minister Zerrouki reaffirmed Algeria's readiness to deepen cooperation, noting that a draft MoU developed during the Fifth Tanzania–Algeria Joint Commission in March 2024 is ready for review and finalization. He showcased Algeria's achievements in satellite communications, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fiber-optic infrastructure, sovereign data centers, digital skills development and startup innovation. He invited Tanzania to draw on this expertise through technical exchanges and capacity-building programs.
The two Ministers also discussed cooperation on regional digital infrastructure, data sovereignty, digital financial services, smartphone registration systems, and coordinated African approaches to digital policy and cybersecurity. They agreed to maintain close engagement and translate the outcomes of their talks into concrete programs that will accelerate digital transformation, strengthen connectivity, and deepen the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and Algeria.
