 The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has called on Viettel Group to deepen its investment in the country’s digital economy by expanding Halotel’s telecommunications network, accelerating digital financial services, and positioning Tanzania as Viettel’s strategic hub for East Africa.

The call was made during a visit by Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Hon. Angellah Jasmine Mbelwa Kairuki (Mp), to Viettel’s Da Nang Center, where she toured the company’s customer service center and gained first-hand experience of Viettel’s customer engagement model and digital ecosystem.

Expressing appreciation for the warm reception, Minister Kairuki noted that the relationship between Tanzania and Viettel extends beyond a traditional investor-host partnership.

“For us, this is not a visit to a foreign company—Viettel is already at home in Tanzania. Through Halotel, Viettel has connected millions of Tanzanians, including communities in remote rural areas that were previously underserved. Halopesa is also bringing financial services closer to ordinary citizens. Tanzania is proud to be one of Viettel’s fastest-growing markets, and we want to build on that success,” she said.

Minister Kairuki encouraged Viettel to continue investing in Tanzania by expanding Halotel’s 4G and 5G coverage, strengthening rural connectivity, growing the Halopesa mobile financial ecosystem, and exploring opportunities to establish Tanzania as Viettel’s regional center for digital services, logistics and technology manufacturing.

Furthermore, she invited the company to collaborate with the Government in developing digital skills among young Tanzanians through training, innovation programs and technology partnerships that will support the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Viettel Da Nang Director, Ms. Nguyen Vu Tra My, expressed her appreciation to Minister Kairuki for visiting Da Nang City. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Tanzania. 

Ms. Nguyen noted that Viettel is ready to share its expertise and experience in digital transformation, smart city development, telecommunications infrastructure, and ICT innovation to support Tanzania’s digital development agenda.

Halotel, operating under Viettel Tanzania since 2015, has become one of Tanzania’s leading telecommunications providers, employing hundreds of Tanzanians while contributing significantly to connectivity and financial inclusion across the country.
